About Buyuk Efes Art
Brought to life in 2008, Büyük Efes Art not only houses the contemporary art collection of Swissôtel Büyük Efes İzmir on permanent display, but it also strives to support art and artists by organizing a range of exhibitions and art events.
Works of leading Turkish contemporary artists including Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Attila Galatalı, Nasip İyem, Beril Anılanmert, Şadi Çalık, Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı, Erdoğan Ersen, and Jale Yılmabaşar, which were already part of Büyük Efes Hotel and were meticulously removed from their places to be restored, once again assumed their places in the Büyük Efes Art Collection as the highlight of this unique selection.
The rest of the collection features works that artists of modern Turkish art designed in parallel with the hotel’s art history and new design concept. The hotel has evolved into an art space with selected works by Devrim Erbil, Seçkin Pirim, Kemal Önsoy, Alev Gözonar, Mithat Şen, Güneş Çınar, and Yaşam Şaşmazer.
As the symbol of İzmir, Büyük Efes also houses a famous bronze sculpture by renowned Colombian painter and sculptor Fernando Botero, whose works are preserved in numerous international museums and collections, as well as sculptures by internationally acclaimed artists Rabarama and Lorenzo Quinn.
As of 2013, Büyük Efes Art also renovated its art projects and continues to organize art events to support art and artists. While the first event entitled, “Dynamo 1” allowed works by young artists to be displayed, the “Sanatuar” project will continue to host universities every year. Through regular art events, exhibitions, and discussions, Büyük Efest Art adds to the art history archives of İzmir and the rest of Turkey.
As Büyük Efes Art continues to uphold the hotel’s inherent relationship with art through regular exhibitions, it will also continue to contribute towards the enrichment of the cultural and artistic heritage of İzmir.
